  1. INSTALLATION
  2.  
  3. The computer Help file of The Constitution of the United
  4. States requires a personal computer running the
  5. Microsoft(tm) Windows(r) operating system version 3.1 or
  6. higher.
  7.  
  8. If you have received a standard installation disk from a
  9. retail or shareware vendor or from Arbor Verde Press
  10. directly, place the disk in your disk drive, select File-Run
  11. from the Windows Program Manager and type A:SETUP<ENTER> (or
  12. B:SETUP<ENTER>). If you have received a "ZIP" file from a
  13. computer bulletin board, shareware vendor or on-line
  14. service, first use an unzip utility to extract the files to
  15. a floppy disk; then run setup as explained above. If you
  16. need help with an unzip utility, you may be able to receive
  17. assistance from your disk vendor or BBS operator.

  19. ADDITIONAL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS AND OPTIONS
  20.  
  21. During installation, the setup program will ask you to
  22. verify the location of your shared Windows directory. Unless
  23. you have a different location on a network, or have modified
  24. your windows setup, you should accept the default which is
  25. normally \WINDOWS\SYSTEM.
  26.  
  27. During installation, you will be presented with a suggested
  28. directory on your hard drive to copy the program
  29. (C:\CONSTI). If the directory does not exist, it will be
  30. created for you. If you want to install the program to a
  31. different drive and directory, enter the information as
  32. desired. You should not install the program to a common
  33. directory such as \Windows or \DOS or the root directory of
  34. your computer (C:\).
  35.  
  36. During installation, you will be presented with a suggested
  37. program group in which to install the icon for the program
  38. (Arbor Verde Press). If this program group does not exist,
  39. it will be created for you. If you want the icon installed
  40. in a different program group, choose one of your existing
  41. program groups from the list shown.
  42.  
  43. During installation, you may be presented with the option of
  44. changing the "jump" colors used by the Windows help system.
  45. Normally, jump topics are underlined and green. If you wish
  46. to change the colors, select that option when presented. If
  47. you choose it you will be changing the colors for ALL your
  48. Windows help files, not just the Constitution help file.
  49. Select whether you want to change the colors or leave them
  50. alone, as desired. If you choose to modify your colors,
  51. setup will modify the [Windows Help] section of WIN.INI. If
  52. you change your mind later and want to set them to a
  53. different color, you can re-run the installation program and
  54. reselect the Change Colors option.

  56. REGISTRATION AND ORDERING INFORMATION
  57.  
  58. Please see the file LICENSE.TXT, from the original install
  59. disk or in the installed directory on your hard drive, for
  60. complete information on your license agreement and for
  61. information on sharing this program with others.

  63. The Constitution itself is, of course, public domain,
  64. however portions of this edition with proprietary indexing
  65. and concordance, hypertext links, and annotations compiled
  66. as a Windows  Help file are Copyright (c) 1993, 1994, and
  67. 1995 by Arbor Verde Press.

  69. Some versions of this program are distributed as shareware
  70. through computer bulletin boards, on-line services and
  71. through Shareware vendors. That means you may evaluate the
  72. computer Help file for thirty days without any obligation to
  73. Arbor Verde Press. If you like the program and plan on
  74. continuing to use it past your 30 day evaluation period, the
  75. registration fee is $15.00 US. The registration fee is
  76. separate from and additional to any fee you may have paid
  77. for a
  78.  
  79. shareware copy of the disk or computer bulletin board
  80. download fees. The registration fee includes a 3.5" disk
  81. with the most current version of the program, a printed copy
  82. of the file in booklet form including bonus documents, and
  83. the right to download any future versions of the computer
  84. Help file from bulletin boards or shareware outlets without
  85. further registration obligation.

  119. INTRODUCTION TO THIS EDITION

  121. Phrases in parenthesis and italicized are not part of the
  122. document itself but are explanatory notes. Phrases and words
  123. struck out and in parenthesis have been superseded or
  124. modified by various amendments and are no longer applicable.
  125. Paragraph numbers italicized and in parenthesis, e.g. (1.),
  126. are informational and not contained in the original. The
  127. Article and Section headings (e.g. Article 1, Section 1) are
  128. standardized here to provide a consistent format for
  129. indexing and "jump topic" programming, and do not reflect
  130. the exact phrasing of or positioning in the original
  131. document.

  135. Although reasonable efforts have been made to assure
  136. accuracy in transcribing the files contained here to
